The Way Our Services Work
Once you’ve decided that self-direction is right for you and you’ve selected Vista Care Direct to be your Fiscal Employer Agent, we will partner with you, your employees and your care team to ensure you and your employees have all the necessary paperwork completed. You make all the choices, and we take care of all of the administration and paperwork!
What is Self-Direction? Is it Right for You?
“Self-direction” is a type of long-term care services and support system where the individual receiving support has control over who they hire and over what type of services they need to live independently.
What does that mean?
You have chosen to self-direct your services through Vista Care Direct’s fiscal employer agent program. This choice gives you the opportunity to decide how, when, and from where you receive the services and support.
You get to choose…
Your employees – you get to hire and train the people you trust most to support you in your daily living. You get to set their schedules to accommodate your needs and set your own standard for care.
Your services – you get to choose what kinds of services you’d like, from housekeeping to skill building to home services and everything in-between, to make sure you can live as independently as you wish.
Why is it better than traditional services?
It’s not that it’s “better” than traditional services, it’s just another option for people who would like to have more choice in their care. When you choose to self-direct your services, you get to be more flexible with who you work with, when, and how.

- Hire trusted family members and friends to provide your services
- Use the budget you established with your care team to purchase services and support to maintain your independence, like housekeeping, meal prep, laundry service, and snow removal, to name a few

What Are My Options with Vista Care Direct?
Currently, we offer two types of self-directed support services:
Fiscal Employer Agent Services
You select you services and employ your team and we handle the paperwork and administration to make sure everyone is paid, taxes are submitted, and everyone has what they need to keep working.
When you select Vista Care Direct as your Fiscal Employer Agent of choice, we work alongside you to make sure your team has everything they need to successfully support your independence.
As your Fiscal Employer Agent, we will:
- Conduct background checks on workers you hire to meet Medicaid compliance and successfully hire your team
- Process payroll for your hired support employees to consistent payment
- Submit payment to your selected vendors for support services
- Manage the amount of federal and state taxes taken out of your employee’s checks to ensure IRS compliance
- Help with other employer tasks like sharing W2s and setting up direct deposit for your employees
With Vista Care Direct as your Fiscal Employer Agent, you manage your employees and let Vista Care Direct handle the administrative paperwork and payroll services. We are here to assist and support you in your role as their employer and help to provide guidance to your employees’ questions or concerns.
Fiscal Conduit Services
Allows you to purchase goods and services from Vista Care Direct once you and your Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) approves a service in your budget. Under Fiscal Conduit, there is no employer-employee relationship. Vista Care Direct functions as the payor of the invoices for goods you received.
